The Beatles met the Maharishi for the first time on Thursday, followed him to Bangor on Friday, and denounced drugs on Saturday before receiving devastating news on Sunday that would change the band forever.

From the moment The Beatles first met the Maharishi, the wheels were set in motion for a trip to his ashram in Rishikesh, India. What began as a unified exercise in blue skies and meditation gradually came to mean something different for each Beatle.

When John & Cynthia returned from India in April 1968, the future was unwritten. What nobody could have guessed was just how quickly the future was going to happen. Yoko enters.

In June 1968 as The Beatles and the rest of the world got used to the new reality of John & Yoko, eligible bachelor P.McCartney visits his best friend’s estranged wife bearing a single red rose. Totally normal stuff. While driving, a song enters his head.

Everything about Hey Jude was different: recorded at Trident Studios, seven minutes long, appearing on a brand new record label. It seemed like a new beginning, but maybe it was the beginning of the end.

And in the end…when the Let It Be single came out at the start of March 1970, the Let It Be album didn’t even exist yet. Cue Phil Spector and a flurry of Abbey Road activity. After all that, Steven & Jason review the accounts after 18 months of Allen Klein.
